Day 5 Photos

The Spuyten Duyvil swing bridge on the Harlem River is open.

A building facade in Spuyten Duyvil, the westernmost neighborhood in the Bronx.

Marble Hill used to be part of Manhattan Island. A rerouting of the Harlem River left it physically connected to the Bronx, although it is still part of the Borough of Manhattan.

It's graduation day in Inwood.

The Henry Hudson Bridge.

This old feller is wearing suspenders, no shirt, no shoes, and a long white beard.

Looking at the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge.

Dirty pigeons and a patriotic fire hydrant.

These people literally live right on 95.

This staircase used to lead down to the Polo Grounds, home of the New York Giants baseball team.

Riverbank State Park is a popular recreation area. It is also built on top of a sewage treatment plant.

Shooting some hoops. Notice the authentic Lebron James autograph on the ball.

This plaque provides no clues as to who is buried in Grant's tomb.

Columbia University.

Fishing in Central Park. Neither I nor any of these kids caught anything, which is surprising given that we were using bamboo rods, unbarbed hooks, and corn for bait.

Looking out across the reservoir in Central Park.

Skating in the park.

The stylish Apple store in Midtown Manhattan.

Playing the big piano at FAO Schwarz. This chord sounded really good.

The 6th Avenue Towers of Power.

The Disneyland crapscape of Times Square.

The graceful concave face of the Grace Building.

I taught him that move.

The New York Public Library, featured in the movie Ghostbusters.

Nice pants.

The view from Madison Square Park. The building on the left, 11 Madison Avenue, was intended to be the base of a 100-story skyscraper, but it was never completed because of the Great Depression.

Looking through the locked fence of Gramercy Park, which is open only to residents of nearby buildings.

Washington Square Park, before community service.

Washington Square Park, after community service. I swear that white U-shaped thing isn't garbage.

Hobbling to the finish line.
